How To Prevent Mosquitoes From Ruining Outdoor Parties And Gatherings

How to Prevent Mosquitoes from Ruining Outdoor Parties and Gatherings

We use our backyards for many things. Some of us enjoy outdoor cooking in the spring, summer and fall. Some of us have a pool for splashing around or just lounging in the sun. Some of us set up a net and play volleyball. If you live in the country, you may 4-wheel or go hunting in your backyard. But one of the most important things we do in our backyards is gathering with friends and family for outdoor parties and gatherings. And nothing can ruin these important activities like a swarm of mosquitoes. Not only do mosquitoes inflict itchy welts on our skin, they are becoming an increasing threat for diseases, which can make your guests feel uncomfortable. If you're planning a family reunion, wedding reception, graduation, or some other important event this year, it is a good idea to consider mosquito reduction. Here are some tips that will help.

1. Address breeding sites.

Most mosquitoes don't travel more than a few hundred feet in their short 2-month lifespan. So you can have an impact on how many bites you get in your backyard by addressing breeding sites.

  • Inspect your yard for any containers. There are many objects that can hold water and all it takes is an inch of water for mosquitoes to reproduce. Some examples of containers are toys left in the yard, an old tire, a wheelbarrow, a kiddie pool, a tarp, cups or bowls left out by the grill, compacted soil, etc.
  • Inspect your gutters. If water is backed up in your gutter it can become the perfect location for mosquitoes to breed. It may seem like a big hassle to get up there and do this but a clear and healthy gutter system isn't just important for mosquito control it also keeps your home from being damaged by water.
  • Check for leaky plumbing. If you have water leaking out of an exterior spigot or hose, not only will it cost you money on your water bill, it will promote mosquito reproduction.

2. Address moisture in your yard.

High humidity can promote mosquito activity in your yard. Mosquitoes require a lot of moisture. As they seek places to hide, they will pick a damp yard over a dry yard any day. If you have areas that get a lot of shade, it is beneficial to trim tree branches to allow the sunlight in to dry your landscaping.

Trimming bushes in your landscaping can promote good airflow and allow for a drier environment.

3. Consider professional mosquito reduction services.

At American Pest Solutions, we know how much of a threat mosquitoes are. That is why the experts here have worked hard to develop the most effective mosquito management program possible. We call it Mosquito Guard.

Mosquito Guard works to reduce mosquitoes between April and October when they are most active. It comes with routine visits every 3 to 4 weeks. During these visits, pest professionals will come to your property and apply a residual mist to strategic locations where mosquitoes are known to rest. This product stays active between visits, so you're always protected.

You can invest in Mosquito Guard as a standalone product or add it to our Pest Guard home pest control program for complete control of pests on your property. Those mosquitoes aren't the only pest that can make you, your family and your pets sick.

4. Let your friends know your event will have fewer mosquitoes

For some people, the fear of mosquitoes will keep them from attending your gathering. Let your guests know if you've invested in Mosquito Guard. It will set them at ease and increase their chances of attending your outdoor event.

A Great Idea

Even if you're not going to have a gathering this year, mosquito reduction is still a great idea. If you like being out in your yard, Mosquito Guard or Home Guard, can give you the protection you need and increase your enjoyment. With Home Guard, you'll also have protection from several other pests that can be a threat to your health, belongings, and equity. Find out what pest pressures you have in your yard by scheduling a free evaluation. We check things out and give you real solutions to keep those pests in check.
